The heavens are saying, "The heavens recount the glory of God, and the sky declares his skill" (Ps. 19:2)
"The sky shows itself as it really is: transcendent, something quite apart from the tiny thing that is man and the span of his life. . . . Even before any religious value has been set upon it, the sky reveals transcendence simply by being there. It exists because it is high, infinite, immovable, powerful." Mircea Eliade, Patterns in Comparative Religion, pp. 38-39
There are these majestic moments when standing in the Grand Canyon and you look up and see the clouds floating endlessly above you. You can’t touch them, you can’t grab and hold on to them, yet you can enjoy their presence. So is it when among others that we should not try to grab and hold on to them as possessions, yet just be glad to sit among them and enjoy their beauty. I never realized how small and insignificant my life was until I stood in the Grand Canyon. It puts everything into perspective. I love being out doors and used to love to travel our beautiful country. Now I just sit and wait for those clouds to make their way to me, and then, for a short while I sit back and enjoy their company. Thank you for reminding me of one more thing I am grateful for in my life. ;)
